CPEP has welcomed more than 1,000 students into the classroom since the program began in 2001. These incarcerated men have chosen to become “students” as a way to reshape their lives. Whether through exposure to new ideas in an academic environment or the pride with which they reconnect with their families, many discover a new identity and a renewed sense of self-worth.
Many of our students remain with us for years, even after earning their degrees, embracing the continued learning, intellectual engagement, and community we provide behind prison walls.

Like students on any college campus, our students are offered not only courses, but also a range of extracurricular activities designed to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion.
Together, these experiences help students develop new perspectives that they seek to apply both while incarcerated and after returning to their communities.
