Academic Programs

Cornell University, Bachelor of Professional Studies

In Fall 2027, the Cornell Prison Education Program will launch the Bachelor of Professional Studies in Organizations, Markets, and Society through the Cornell School of Continuing Education.  The degree will be offered in-person at the Cayuga Correctional Facility, which is roughly a 40-minute drive from campus.  The degree program offers integrated study in the disciplines of economics, business, public policy, and social sciences, preparing students for professional roles in diverse sectors. The curriculum includes courses in finance, management, entrepreneurship, data analytics, global development, and social inequality.

SUNY Cayuga Community College, Associate in Arts Degree

Since 2007, Cornell has collaborated with SUNY Cayuga Community College to offer an Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts & Sciences at several regional prisons.  In 2026 we began formally transitioning the administration of this program to our colleagues at Cayuga Community College, who will continue to offer the program at Auburn, Cayuga, and Five Points Correctional Facilities.

The Cornell Prison Education Program remains active in these facilities. We continue to offer courses, maintain and facilitate use of our in-prison computer labs, and we manage several extracurricular programs across these facilities.

Cornell community members, including graduate students who have passed their ‘A’ exams or who hold at least a masters degree in a field of instruction, are encouraged to consider teaching for the associate degree program in prison through Cayuga Community College. Use the link below to submit your interest in teaching a course for Cayuga Community College..

Cornell Law School Program

In partnership with Cornell Law School, CPEP offers undergraduate courses focused on different areas of legal study. These courses are taught by Cornell law students as part of the Prison Education Practicum. Past courses include Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Civil Procedure, Contract Law, Torts, Immigration Law, Legal Writing, The Supreme Court, and more. Incarcerated college students and incarcerated college graduates are eligible to enroll in these credit-bearing courses, which may be considered elective credits for those pursuing a college degree.

Law students who are interested in teaching in prison should contact Julia Mizutani, who leads the teaching practicum.
