For many, a stable home is something easily taken for granted. But not for Bryon Russ. Originally from Geneva, NY, Bryon now lives with his wife, Jolene, in a charming two-family house in Seneca Falls. Their home, surrounded by porches on three sides, sits beside a quiet farm in a rural part of town. From this peaceful spot, they enjoy watching the sun rise and set each day. With a large yard perfect for gardening and hosting family celebrations during warmer months, their home has become a cherished haven.
For the past two years, Bryon has worked at HEP Sales in Waterloo, NY. He began in an entry-level position as a “picker” and has steadily advanced, earning his CDL-A license and now serving as the Return Goods Authorization Representative. In this role, he collaborates with vendors to return unused or damaged equipment, helping the company save money. Bryon enjoys his work and credits some of his professional success to his experience while incarcerated, where he served as Chairman of the Incarcerated Individual Liaison Committee—a group elected to represent the voices of their housing block to prison officials and the superintendent.
Today, Bryon is also the primary caregiver for his mother—something he feels not just responsible for, but deeply grateful to be able to do. Both he and Jolene are thankful for the time they now share since Bryon’s release, recognizing the profound impact it has had on their lives and those of their loved ones.
While Bryon has much to be proud of, he takes the greatest pride in his personal growth and the way he now sees the world. He has found a deep sense of inner peace, which he attributes to his home life and the unwavering support of his wife, mother, and extended family. He’s learned that choosing to “walk away” from conflict—or potential conflict—has become an important strategy that supports his continued growth. Both he and Jolene also speak highly of CPEP, recognizing the organization as a vital source of inspiration and support throughout their journey.
Looking ahead, Bryon and Jolene dream of owning their own home and traveling the country in an RV. Bryon also hopes to pursue work as a paralegal, having already earned his certification.
