Book Clubs

Book clubs are held at all three facilities on a semester-by-semester basis. They provide students and scholars with additional opportunities to explore a variety of topics and writing styles that they might not otherwise encounter.

For example, at Five Points Correctional Facility, between 8–12 students typically participate in the book club, which is primarily offered during the summer session, though it occasionally runs during the regular academic year as well.

The book club began in 2023 at the request of several students who had already completed their associate’s degrees and wanted a lighter, alternative learning experience over the summer. Since then, the club has grown in popularity and continues to attract both graduated and degree-seeking students. Many are drawn to the opportunity to read for pleasure, analyze literature, and engage in thoughtful discussion with their peers.
