{"id":14,"date":"2013-12-11T23:41:08","date_gmt":"2013-12-11T23:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cpep.cornell.edu\/writersbloc\/?page_id=14"},"modified":"2013-12-30T22:44:13","modified_gmt":"2013-12-30T22:44:13","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cpep.cornell.edu\/writersbloc\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cpep.cornell.edu\/writersbloc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/WritersBloc.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cpep.cornell.edu\/writersbloc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/WritersBloc.png\" alt=\"WritersBloc\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-58\" \/><\/a><em>Writer&#8217;s Bloc<\/em> literary journal was started by Rahul Desai (&#8217;10) and Julia Woodward (&#8217;10) &#8211; both Teaching Assistants for the Cornell Prison Education Program (CPEP), with the intent of providing CPEP students with an outlet for their talents and the campus population a lens to their counterparts\u2019 vision and abilities. They begun the literary journal with this fundamental idea: writing is an outlet and it is a deeply personal expression of self, and as such, it should be given an opportunity to be heard.<\/p>\n<p>The first volume of <em>Writer&#8217;s Bloc<\/em> was published during the 2009-10 academic year. Rahul Desai and Esther Kwan (&#8217;11) donated the proceeds of their winning Cornell\u2019s Robinson-Appel Humanitarian Award to continue publication of <em>Writer\u2019s Bloc<\/em> 2010-2011.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>From the Writer&#8217;s Bloc website of 2011:<\/em><br \/>\nWe hope that the <em>Writer&#8217;s Bloc<\/em> literary journal will be a platform for the Auburn students to tell their stories to their audience.
